Season 2, Episode 01 – “Wexford”
Fred Sirieix, TV’s favourite Frenchman, loves new experiences of travel, history, culture, food, hospitality and, of course, meeting people. One of his other loves is cycling – now he’s back in Ireland to pursue a fresh adventure on his bike, and we join Fred as he takes on a series of cycling challenges on the sometimes gruelling but often spectacular roads of Wexford. The journey begins aboard Irish Ferries where Fred meets cycling enthusiast Cillian, who offers him some tips for his adventure ahead – Fred’s first cycle challenge is to climb to the highest point of Slieve Coillte for views across six counties. Later, Fred steps aboard the Dunbrody Famine Ship, immersing himself in the powerful story of Irish emigrants who sailed to America in the 19th century – the cycle continues to Hook Lighthouse, the oldest working lighthouse in the world, before a hungry Fred pays a visit to an oyster farm once the epicentre of a prosperous industry and a major supplier of Gillardeau oysters.
